Phase 5 · Multiverse Saga

Thunderbolts* (2025)

Dark humor · Character-driven

Directed by: Jake Schreier
Released: 2025-05-02
Length: 127 min

The quick take

A mismatched group of antiheroes gets pulled into a job together and has to decide whether they can trust each other. Darker and more character-driven than most of the franchise.

Watch these first

Black Widow and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier cover most of what the cast brings with them.

Prep time: about 7 h 14 min.

The bigger picture

A band of reluctant antiheroes finds itself trapped together and has to decide whether to fight or flee. It is more of a character study than a spectacle.

Skip it or watch it?

A good one to watch if you have seen those two. It closes out Phase 5.

Black Widow

A spy confronts the past she thought she had left behind. It takes place between earlier films, so it feels like a flashback chapter.

Series · Phase 4 · 2021

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier

Two former allies who never got along are forced to work together after a famous legacy is handed down. Part buddy comedy, part political thriller.
